Rare, precious, and mysterious are just three words that may accurately describe natural ambergris. Ambergris is a rare and costly excretion of the sperm whale which floats in the ocean for many years before being washed ashore, where it is further "aged" and lightened by exposure to sea air, wind, and sand. Its aroma, depending on the grade used, ranges between extremely fecal to dry, oceanic, and refined. Even Casanova knew about the aphrodisiac properties of ambergris - he used it and appreciated its powers! Rumor has it that he would melt small pieces of ambergris in his morning hot chocolate to aid in his sexual recovery and energy.
Amber Gris is a celebration of this warm and quixotic material.
